Exploration, Excitement, Experiences! That's what the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course is all about. And no, you don't have to be “advanced” to take it. This course will get you diving more with the comfort of professional divers by your side.

The Advanced Open Water Diver course helps you increase your confidence and build your scuba skills so you can become more comfortable in the water. This is a great way to get more dives under your belt while continuing to learn under the supervision of your PADI Instructor. This course builds on what you've learned and develops new capabilities by introducing you to advanced scuba activities and new ways to have fun diving.
You'll hone your skills by completing five Adventure Dives that introduce you to:
- Underwater navigation
- Deeper water diving (typically anywhere from 18-30 metres/ 60-100 feet)
- An introduction to three more Adventure Dives - Wreck and Night as well as Search & Recovery or Drysuit. (add Drysuit Diver with an extra dive and get two certifications in one weekend!)
Prerequisites
To take this course, you must be:
- A PADI Open Water Diver (or hold a qualifying certification from another training organization)
- 15 years old (12 for Junior Advanced Open Water Diver)
What You Learn
The knowledge and skills you get in the Advanced Open Water Diver course vary with your interest and the adventures you choose, but include:
- Practical aspects of deep diving
- Physiological effects of deeper scuba diving
- More ways to use your underwater compass
- How to navigate using kick-cycles, visual landmarks and time
- How to better use your dive computer
- And much, much more, depending on the Adventure Dives chosen
The Scuba Gear You Use
You use all the basic scuba gear including your underwater compass. Depending on the fifth adventure dive you choose, you will get to try a Drysuit and/or other specialty gear. You will need a dive light and a tank marker light for the night dive, a small slate and Scuba Tool/Knife. We can help you in choosing the right gear for your chosen adventure.
The Learning Materials You Need
- Advanced Data Carrier Slate
- Standard diver slate
- DSMB (Deployable Surface Marker Buoy) w/reel
- Diver tool (knife)
- Night intro dive requires primary light and tank marker light (only if offered)
You'll use these as a guide to improve your diving skills and prepare for new experiences and adventures.

Atlantis Aquatics Cancellation/Postponement Policy
Atlantis Aquatics reserves the right to cancel or postpone a class due to weather, lightning, pool closing, or any other circumstance that may cause the course to be postponed. In the event of a class cancellation by Atlantis Aquatics, the student can reschedule or receive a full refund on the instructional portion of the course.
If a student cancels less then 48 hours from a scheduled class, no refund is offered. If a student wishes to reschedule a course less then 14 days from a scheduled class, a $45.00 change fee is in effect. If a student cancels a class greater then 14 days from a scheduled class, the student may receive a refund for the instructional portion of the course minus a $50.00 non refundable amount. No refunds available for cancellation of class less then 14 days from scheduled class.
